Aline Baiana (1985) lives between Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, and Berlin. She develops a collaborative, research-based artistic practice investigating the ontological conflict between the Global North and South. Her methodology resists systems of homogenization and erasure, embracing exchange and fluidity as fundamental principles. Focusing on traditional knowledge, Aline Baiana’s practice gathers stories, images, materials, and ideas that question human exceptionalism, contributing to “a world where many worlds fit.” She has exhibited in Brazil, Europe, and Western Asia, including the 14th Sharjah Biennial, the 11th Berlin Biennale, and the 36th São Paulo Biennial. Her work is included in the collections of Kadist and Friends of the Nationalgalerie (Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin).

#1 (2024) is part of the series Como qualquer outra dobra do mundo, composed of works that explore the earth as an extension of the body. In it, the artist develops installations and sculptures that provoke reflections on this indistinguishability. In the words of Antônio Bispo dos Santos, “The earth does not belong to people; people belong to the earth.” Thinking alongside more-than-human animals that also use clay as the raw material for their homes, Aline Baiana invites reflection on the idea that consciousness, intelligence, narrativity—or any capacity thought to define human exceptionalism—is as intrinsic to the earth as any fold that shapes the planet.
