Leda Catunda (1961) lives and works in São Paulo. Among her recent solo exhibitions are I like to like what others are liking, Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (2025); Paisagem selvagem, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel | Carpintaria, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2024); Leda Catunda: EUFORIA, ICA Milano, Milan, Italy (2023); Geography, Bortolami Gallery, New York, USA (2022); Judy Chicago & Leda Catunda, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, São Paulo, Brazil (2022); Leda Catunda & Alejandra Seeber, MALBA – Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires (2021); and Leda Catunda: 1983–2008, a retrospective at Estação Pinacoteca (São Paulo, 2009).
A key figure of the so-called Geração 80, she participated in the landmark exhibitions Como Vai Você, Geração 80?, Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro, 1984); and Pintura como Meio, MAC-USP (São Paulo, 1983). Her career also includes participations in four editions of the São Paulo Biennial (2018, 1994, 1985, and 1983), as well as the Mercosur Biennial (Porto Alegre, 2001) and the Havana Biennial (Cuba, 1984). Her works are held in major public collections such as Instituto Inhotim (Brumadinho); MAM Rio de Janeiro; Fundación ARCO (Madrid, Spain); Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, Netherlands); Pinacoteca do Estado; MAC-USP; MASP; and MAM São Paulo.
Window (2017) is a collage composed of wrapping paper, watercolor, and organza. The work features an overlap of rounded layers that echoes the filled shapes common in Catunda’s practice, creating a composition rich in color and texture.
