George Teles (1997) is a visual artist and researcher who lives between Feira de Santana and Salvador. His production moves between drawing, printmaking, and painting, currently focused on contemporary impressions. He researches memory, body, and displacement, exploring how encounters with territories expand printmaking and painting toward the agency of materialities. His work proposes dialogues between technique and sensitive experience.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB). In 2021, he published his first book, Afetos da travessia. His recent exhibitions include Lambeduras, colisões e rotas de desvio, Centro Cultural São Paulo (2024); Duas Braçadas e Meia, RV Cultura e Arte, Salvador (2024); and Sidney Amaral: um espelho na história, Almeida e Dale Galeria de Arte, São Paulo (2022), the first two being solo shows. He is also Director of Communication and Planning at Instituto Práticas Desobedientes, where he has been part of the permanent research and creation group since 2019.

In Resíduos do Oitavo Encontro 2 (2024), two glass plates measuring 35 x 45 cm each are superimposed. They bear different impressions of manual weavings made from thread residues collected during travels between cities in the Recôncavo da Bahia region. The process of collecting and walking reflects the body’s experience with the territory and its materialities, as well as the relationship between presence and absence, having in mind the racialized bodies that are prevented from living such encounters.

Thus, the work proposes a dialogue between the materialities, the techniques, and the sensitive experience. The act of manually weaving the remnants of the world is, for the artist, an operation that allows the manipulation of a reality in ruins. The glass, through its transparency, assumes the role of creating intimacy with the invisible: it reveals the reverse side of the print, exposing the hidden surface between the graphic body and its support.
