Luiz Roque (1979) lives and works in São Paulo.
His recent solo exhibitions have been held at institutions such as KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2024); PROA21, Buenos Aires (2022); Visual Arts Center, Austin (2021); Pivô, São Paulo (2020); CAC Passerelle, Brest (2020); New Museum, New York (2019); Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói (MAC), Niterói (2018); and Tramway, Glasgow (2017).
Additionally, Roque has participated in group exhibitions at venues including MASP, São Paulo (2025); CCS Bard, Hessel Museum of Art Bard College, Red Hook (2025); 12th Gothenburg Biennial, Gothenburg (2023); 59th International Biennale di Venezia, Venice (2022); MALBA, Buenos Aires (2022–2026); Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM-SP), São Paulo (2019); 32nd Bienal de São Paulo, São Paulo (2016); Museum of Modern Art PS1 (MoMA PS1), New York (2016); and 9th Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre.
Boomerang (2025) is part of a sculptural line of thought developed by the artist, in which ceramic compositions evoke both the body—as a constitutive element—and accessories—as something that attaches, fits, or embeds into the body. The work was presented at ARPA Fair (2025).
