Gustavo Silvamaral (1995) lives and works in São Paulo. His artistic journey began with an exploration of the impermanence of materials, which, increasingly aligned with the union of painting and sculpture, has resulted in images of pulsating three-dimensionality.

Inspired by Brazilian and North American painting from the 1980s, as well as by music videos, everyday stories, and formal radicality, his work navigates the borders between the ephemeral and the eternal, the sensual and the rigorous. In his creations, abstraction and figuration meet without constraint, as continuous reflections on color, composition, and time—where painting is not confined to image or object, but follows an infinitely open path.

In the work precious moments (2025), Silvamaral brings together within a wooden structure elements such as tow, aluminum, linen, and tulle, along with seven crystal pendants suspended by steel wires. The aluminum and crystals contribute to a sense of false preciousness, which the artist references in the title and by citing, to describe the piece, the song Royals by New Zealand singer Lorde:

“And we’ll never be royals (royals)
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And, baby, I’ll rule (I’ll rule, I’ll rule)
Let me live that fantasy”
