Arlete Soares (1940) is a photographer and editor. From Valença, in the state of Bahia, she is an Aquarius, and a daughter of Iemanjá. She moved to Salvador as a child and graduated in Education. Soares left Brazil during the military regime and went to study psychology in Paris, where she began photographing. She founded and directed Editora Corrupio for more than 40 years and is currently dedicated to organizing her photographic archive of about 15,000 items, captured between 1968 and 2021. The oldest photographer still active in Salvador, she remains dreamy, irreverent, and unpredictable.
Untitled (1990) presents two photographs that capture intense moments of artistic creation, in which the mastery of Lina Bo Bardi and Pierre Verger illuminated the cultural history of Salvador da Bahia. The images have previously been exhibited at Casa do Benin, Salvador, and at SESC Pompéia, São Paulo.
