Augusto Leal (1987) holds a master’s degree in visual arts from the Universidade Federal da Bahia and understands art as a liberating practice, through which he is able to work through the issues that cross him and imagine new worlds. Thinking from social and geopolitical relations, he believes that art can contribute to transformations in the ways we think, relate, and move through the world. For this reason, his work is driven by dialogue, presence, participation, and collaboration in a collective effort to (un)think society.

He is the creator of MASF – Museu de Arte de Simões Filho (2023), an artistic proposition that occupies a staircase on the city’s main avenue, creating experiences of artistic enjoyment for local residents and promoting the circulation of artworks by artists from both within and outside the city. In 2023, MASF received the Museu é o Mundo prize.

In recent years, he has participated in exhibitions such as Dos Brasis – Arte e Pensamento Negro (2023/24), 11ª Mostra 3M de Arte (2022), 13ª Bienal Internacional de Arquitetura de São Paulo (2022), Utopias e Distopias at MAM-BA (2022), and Encruzilhadas: a Arte Afro-Brasileira (2023), among others. He was nominated for the Prêmio PIPA 2024 and, in 2025, served on the award’s nomination committee.

SF-Arte – Simões Filho International Art Fair (2025) offers people the opportunity to collect something extremely unique and valuable—Bahia’s manioc flour: toasted, thin, crunchy, and flavorful. The flour, signed by the artist Augusto Leal, comes with a special bag featuring the fair’s visual identity. The QR code transforms any place where SF-Arte appears into an art fair. By acquiring this work, collectors contribute to the activities of MASF – Museu de Arte de Simões Filho.

The work is a development of a performance of the same title, presented in the Linha de Performance program at Sesc Pompeia in July 2025.
