iahra (1993) works with different materials-enclosures, seeking form through experimentation, process, and abstraction. Her practice-research develops from a topological poetics and a transdisciplinary relationship with elements that evoke wrapping, covering, and weaving—fabric, paper, raffia, concrete, and glass. Her works reveal tensions and conflicts between matter, form, textures, and chromatic planes, traversed by metaphysical and cosmic concepts.
She began her studies through open courses at Escola de Artes Spectaculu and Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. She holds a technical degree in fashion design from Anhanguera and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sculpture at Escola de Belas Artes da UFRJ. She was a resident artist at Elã, a formative residency at Galpão Bela Maré (2022), and in the residency program of Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (2020). She participated in the group shows Vida transbordante e os desejos do mundo, Solar dos Abacaxis (2023) and Histórias LGBTQIP+, MASP (2021), as well as held a solo exhibition in the 33rd edition of the Programa de Exposições at Centro Cultural São Paulo (2024).
desenhei os riscos, cortei com linhas o plano (2024) is an exercise in which iahra drew marks on the plane of the paper in order to create another form—to do so, she explored different angles, using curvilinear strokes and circularity. The work is an investigative abstraction of modern Cartesianism, seeking to reveal other perspectives of space and time. At the same time, it appropriates modernist Neo-Concrete language by rethinking the limits of borders and what is defined within them. The lines are like the abstraction of an equation, where the emerging forms suggest other values.
