Ygor Landarin (1995) lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. His work addresses the memories and visual inheritances stemming from his relationship with the city where he grew up. He finds in archaeology interests that unfold into art, composing abstractions related to shell mounds (concheiros and sambaquis).

Since 2017, he has collaborated with artist Brígida Baltar, currently being part of the conservation, memory, and project continuity team at the Instituto Brígida Baltar.

A graduate from the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, Landarin was selected for the Formação e Deformação course and was also a scholarship holder for the Imersões Poéticas course at Escola Sem Sítio. He participated in the film festival at Bienal de Coimbra (2024), in the Nise exhibition at CCBB Brasília, and in the FAAP artist residency (2019). His works are part of the collection of Museu de Arte do Rio – MAR.

Jaguara II (2023) was created during the period in which the artist began experimenting with clay and resin. “Jaguara” is a term used in Landarin’s hometown to refer to someone who is a “trickster” or “rascal.” The artist is interested in the relationship between the material aspect of the work—which bears some resemblance to the texture of certain feline skins—and his memory of a local, colloquial vocabulary. Jaguara II was included in the exhibition Bronze Noturno, curated by Daniela Avellar, Deborah Zapata, and Renato Canivello at Galeria Refresco, Rio de Janeiro (2024).
