Ana Sant’Anna (1992) is a visual artist with a master’s degree in communication and semiotics from PUC-SP, in the research line Creative Processes in Communication and Culture, and a bachelor’s degree in museology from Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA).

Working across multiple languages, the artist develops a practice that seeks to make visible what is subtle: luminosity, transience, and the experience of non-chronological time. The relationship with the places she inhabits and traverses nourishes a continuous investigation, in which enchantment and sensitive listening become material for her work. Between simplicity and complexity, her research highlights the power of natural phenomena, bringing them to the surface in the form of delicate and atmospheric landscapes. These images, which oscillate between the intimate and the universal, between tangible reality and imagistic abstraction, configure poetic dissolutions that reveal the investigative core of her artistic practice.

In O peso da leveza (2025), the artist approaches the mountain not merely as a form but as a mirror. Sant’Anna recounts that during a residency in Igatu (BA – Brazil), she saw herself as a mountain: solid, silent, and inhabited by layers of time, and says that the surrounding landscape passed through her body and settled onto the canvas as a breath of permanence. For the artist, there is weight in the mountain—the weight of the rock, the earth, and the memory—but also a lightness that arises from the sky that envelops it and from the breath that passes through it. Between these extremes, the painting reveals the paradox of existence: to be both firm and ethereal, a presence that resists and simultaneously dissolves into atmosphere.
