Mayana Redin (1984) lives in Belo Horizonte. She is an artist, researcher, and professor in the Visual Arts program at UFMG. She holds a degree in visual arts/sculpture from UFRGS, and a master’s and PhD in visual languages from EBA-UFRJ. Her research revolves around the cosmo-technical, artifactual, and catastrophic imaginary of humanity, using text production, sculpture, installation, and video as her primary media.
Astroblem (2024) is part of a series of reliefs in which various materials and technical experiments are used to compose material drawings. “Astroblems” is another term used to designate craters—the scars left by asteroids upon impact with the Earth’s surface. The work was shown in Nenhum Mistério, the artist’s solo exhibition at Galeria Marli Matsumoto in 2024.
