Bernardo Conceição dos Santos (1999) is from Itinga, a peripheral satellite neighborhood of Salvador. He has always been a young artist, always denying that the world only consists of what the eyes can see.
He is a visual artist, writer, and performer. The multidisciplinarity that thrives in Salvador captivated and transformed him into an artist. One of the youngest people to join the Acervo de Arte Moderna da Bahia at MAM-BA, his presence in exhibitions includes an extensive list of Brazilian institutions, galleries, and museums. As creator of the creativity and fashion label SEMPRE VIVO_, he has collaborated with national brands such as DENDEZEIRO, FÁBULA, and BATEKOO.
Que meus inimigos sejam de Ogum também (2024) speaks of brotherhood and family—more specifically, about how generations of women can create the world, both together and alone. It is also a funeral prayer against male cowardice, and a plea to the forces of peace so that war hides from the lives of those seeking a family—and so that all that hinders this path becomes enemies of Ogum.
The work translates the signs of love and fraternity the artist observes in his city and community, contributing to his goal of mapping tools that allow love to endure in this territory. It connects with the signs of love that are part of Conceição’s everyday life and with the tools created by the women and men he admires. Furthermore, it stems from the idea that Ogum represents technology and strategy—a way to speak of interpersonal constructions that can be seen as iron to be forged by those who are able. The work was exhibited at the Museu Nacional de Cultura Afro Brasileira, in the exhibition Raízes: Começo, Meio e Começo (2024–25).
