Clara Moreira (1984) is an artist born and based in Recife. In her practice, she uses drawing as poetic writing and body craft. She learned artistic skills — drawing, painting, and poetry — in childhood from a family of artists in the suburbs of Recife. Her work is part of the collections of Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Museu Paranaense, Museu da Língua Portuguesa, Banco do Nordeste Collection, and Caixa Cultural Collection. In 2022, she received the 8º Prêmio de Artes Tomie Ohtake. She was nominated for the Prêmio PIPA in 2022 and 2024.
vôo minhas lágrimas (2024) is a colored-pencil portrait on cotton paper in which a few tears can be seen on the figure’s face. About the work, the artist writes:
“breathing rites
I draw a hand mirror
recollect the teaching of the liquid song, the memory of the tear
that it not be forgotten
–
I breathe, listen, say, see, imagine, fly”
The work was exhibited in Paris at Galerie Salon H during the artist’s solo show pour qu’un corps vole (to make a body fly) in February 2024.
