São Paulo-based Yuli Yamagata (1989) is fascinated by the monstrous: hand-dyed textiles using the shibori technique, thread and chains, repurposed furniture, plastic fruit and vegetables are all utilised in her unsettling sculptural assemblages. Influenced by manga and horror, lips, octopi and eyeballs are recurring visual symbols in her work.

The image in A treat for cloudy days (2025) originates from a stained-glass drawing made by the artist in 2021. Instead of choosing bright, expansive colors, she opted for something more introspective, referring to a more personal conversation through the smaller scale of the piece.
