Rodolpho Parigi (1977) lives and works in São Paulo. He holds a BA in Visual Arts from FAAP – Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, São Paulo, and has completed residencies such as Cité des Arts, Paris (2009); Flora+Ars, Bogotá (2013); Pivô Pesquisa, São Paulo (2011); Red Bull Station, São Paulo (2013); and Art Dubai (2019).
Parigi’s work grows from a conflict between reality and fiction. From drawings to paintings and performance works, he has explored the possibilities of a self-imagined sci-fi world inhabited by hybrid or androgynous figures of strange beauty, and shapes that come to the surface like living bodies that could breath or move. The artist makes drawings and paintings as a way to transfigure ideas of body and gender exploring the boundaries between material and artificial.
On large-scale canvases, anamorphic forms and bodies are fused and remodelled to form explosive surfaces where containment and expansion are negotiated within the physical limitations of the canvas. With references that go from classic art to pop culture, Parigi has created a visual virtual reality. He makes it visible by naturalistically rendering these objects, bodies and beings that do not “exist”.
The artist has held solo exhibitions at institutions such as Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Galeria Nara Roesler, and Amt I Torri & Geminian Gallery, Milan. He has also participated in group exhibitions at Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), Museu Histórico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Fundação Iberê Camargo, Centro Cultural São Paulo, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, and ARTSPACE, Auckland, among others. His work is part of public collections at institutions such as Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Itaú Cultural, and Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia.
Gold Volumen 33 (2025) stems from a common practice in Parigi’s paintings, in which the virtuosity and the metamorphosis of both recognizable and invented figures occur through the use of planes and layers, creating an image with a unique and complex composition. With saturated colors, the work has a strong visual impact.
