In his sculptures and installations, Iagor Peres (1995) is guided by a desire to transform the notion of “thing” through processes of material recategorization and perceptual disorientation. Departing from relationships established between artwork, exhibition space, and the public, Peres focuses on the range of reactions between matter and the environmental conditions—such as humidity, temperature, and meaning—that affect it. These material configurations translate the artist’s questioning regarding the mechanisms that produce difference within Western white thought and which impact the racialized existence. His background in dance also resonates in his emphasis on the body and its dynamics of appearance and withdrawal within space.
Among his solo exhibitions are Entresól, Pols, Valencia (2024); Adiar anoite, Futuros – Arte e Tecnologia, Rio de Janeiro (2024); and Quando o raio bate na areia, Quadra, São Paulo (2023). He has also participated in group shows such as Un interstício en todas partes a la vez, AGUASS, Barcelona(2024); Emoção de lidar, Quadra, São Paulo (2023); Prêmio PIPA, Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2023); Possible agreements, Mendes Wood DM, Brussels (2022); and Ópera citoplasmática, MON – Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba (2022).
Untitled (2025) is part of the drawing series Linha de quebra, in which the trace emerges within the fissure of the very medium that sustains it, through the extreme tension between paper, wax, and gesture.
