Paulo Bruscky (1949) is one of the leading figures of conceptual art in Brazil and one of the foremost pioneers of various practices involving art, technology, and communication. His artistic practice, grounded in the idea of art as information, is marked by constant experimentation, resulting in a diverse body of work encompassing visual poetry, artists’ books, performances, urban interventions, Super-8 films, and new media works. Bruscky’s production is also characterized by its social and political critique, reflecting his critical and activist stance, partly developed in response to the rise of military governments and the subsequent establishment of severe dictatorial regimes in several Latin American countries, including Brazil, during a period that coincided with the beginning of his career.
